New Cast

Austin went to an orthopedic specialist this week and got a cast put on his leg (it has a spiral fracture in the tibia). Now he is trying to learn how to walk in the big thing (it goes all the way up to his mid-thigh). He didn't cry at all at the doctor and doesn't seem to bothered by the cast. And it's a waterproof cast, so he can take baths and swim in it.

In this picture, Austin is pretending to talk on the phone using the vacuum cord. He LOVES to pretend to talk on the phone, he does it all day long and will use whatever he gets his hands on and pretend it's a phone.

Broken

Two days ago I went with one of my friends from college, Andi, and her to boys to Discovery Gardens at Thanksgiving Point. Our kids were having a great time playing in the splash pool. Austin kept walking to me where I sat on the grass over to the water to splash around, and then back to me, over and over. One of the times, as he stepped out of the water, he slipped on the pavement and turned his ankle completely sideways and fell. The poor boy cried and cried. When we got home he couldn't put any weight on it. So Adam came home from work and we took Austin to an after hours urgent care to get x-rays. Sure enough, a very small break. They gave him a temporary splint wrapped in an ace bandage, and Monday we'll go see an orthopedic specialist to get a walking cast. So for about four days, Austin can't walk at all, even though he wants to so bad. I have to carry him everywhere. It's going to be a long weekend! Poor little guy.

Gateway Fountain Fun

On Adam's day off Wednesday, we took the boys to Salt Lake to play in the water fountains at Gateway Mall. Ethan absolutely LOVED it and was screaming, giggling, and running around crazily. Austin liked it apprehensively at first, but then got shot with a fountain of water right in the face, and didn't go anywhere near the water the rest of the time.

Family Pics

We got family pictures taken a few weeks ago and just got them back. They turned out really good, considering one child cried pretty much the whole time (Austin) and one child just wanted to look the other way and refused to smile (Ethan). Our neighbor, Jeremy Pexton, did the pictures, and I must say, he was very patient with us and our anti-picture children. Here are just a few of the many he took.

Weekend at the beach

Adam and I went to Coronado Island in California over the weekend for a reunion with my college friends. We had so much fun!!! Our boys stayed with Adam's parents for two days and my parents for two days. My friend Liz's family owns a beach house just down the street from the the famous Hotel Del Coronado (pictured in the previous post). The house is beautiful and huge, so there was plenty of room for all 17 of us! We spent the weekend taking bike rides, laying on the beach, shopping, eating, talking, playing games, and the boys even went surfing. It's so much fun because all of our husbands get along GREAT. Thanks, Liz and Mike, for letting us stay at your house!!

The boys driving the convertible bug on their way to go surfing. We thought they looked kinda gay in that thing, but it was funny.

We made the boys ride the bikes to the restaurant on the island where we went out to eat, while the girls got to ride in the car. It was pretty funny to see them all on the bikes. What nice husbands we have.

Eating our "Chinese Dinner" that we made in honor of the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics (notice our chopsticks? )

Coronado, Here We Come!

Adam and I are leaving tomorrow for a 4 day (kid free) trip to Coronado, California! We are having a reunion weekend with my friends from BYU. We're staying in my friend Liz's family's beach house that is a few houses down from the famous Hotel Del Coronado (in the picture). We've stayed at Liz's beach house a couple other times, and it is AMAZING! Adam checked out the weather for our weekend there... highs in the 70's, lows in the 60's. Can't wait!

Itty Bitty Soccer

Ethan has been playing Itty Bitty Soccer at our local rec center for the past 2 weeks. It's just for 3 and 4 year olds to learn the basics of soccer. They are in teams and go station to station learning soccer skills. Ethan is on Team USA! The first day of it, Ethan was pretty hesitant to leave my side, but now he LOVES it. It's so fun to watch all the kids chase after the ball and kick it in the wrong goal. They are clueless of the rules, but that's what makes it fun.

Family Reunion

This weekend we went to a family reunion for my Mom's side of the family. I don't see my aunts and uncles and cousins very often, so it was fun to see them and catch up. We stayed in a huge, brand new cabin at Panguitch Lake. It was up in the mountains and absolutely beautiful! It was a fun weekend, but very very exhausting. The adults stayed up really late both nights playing games, but then my kids would wake up at 6:30 am, leaving me with about 5 hours of not too great quality sleep. Oh well.

Austin usually hates being held by ANYONE except immediate family that is very comfortable with. But he absolutely LOVED my cousin Sydney from the moment he met her. Adam and I only wish she lived close to us so she could become our official babysitter! He loved it when she would play with his hair (see picture). I just can't bring myself to cut off his long curly locks of hair!

We spent most of our time outside; taking walks, playing in the lake or stream, swinging, campfires, etc.

The drive home was through the mountains and was beautiful (except for the whiney, tired kids in the back seat). We stopped to see a view of Cedar Breaks, it was amazing.
